UK Business Directory Listings
Business Directory Listings UK Help
This section has been set up to explain at management/user level why we have different levels of listing and to answer other commonly asked questions.
WHY THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF LISTING
- -
BASIC LISTING: The very basic level of listing is ideal for trades people etc who do not have a web site and simply want a listing.
- LINK EXCHANGE LISTING: The SEO benefits only benefit both sites when there is a links exchange. This exchange is essential for two main reasons. Firstly for you the member having a link from a site as popular as this with Google is invaluable. To keep our popularity with Google requires that members link back to us. Our link to you will be more beneficial to you than yours will be to us but volume inbound links will make up for the lack of quality. Secondly inbound links are good and as we are the experts we feel it's a bare minimum request for you to link back to us!
- PREMIUM LISTING: For members who appreciate the benefits of having a site this popular with Google linking to them we have a premium listing service. Your dedicated page will have four key word pairs positioned to show high quality linking and on top of that these four key word pairs will link to your site. With the cost of SEO and the push such a high quality service will give £20 per year is unbelievably low. Why the charge, well the page will require a physical check but the main reason is that we work relentlessly to make other online companies rich and have done for the past 18 years and with our track record £20 is nothing to ask.
LINKS AND JARGON EXPLAINED
- THE LINK TEXT OR ANCHOR TEXT: This is simply the text you click on to go to another web page so for example here: UK Business Directory Listings the text UK Business Directory Listings is the link or anchor (both terms mean the same) text. The search engines know you will read the text in the link and if it's what you want you'll click it. In short the link or anchor text will usually describe what the page is about that it links to.
In the code below I have highlighted the anchor/link text in red
<a href="http://www.businessdirectorylistings.co.uk" title="Business Directory Listings UK">Business Directory Listings UK</a>
In summary if a thousand sites put that link above on their sites you can guarantee Google etc is going to weigh it pretty heavily that the site is about business directory listings for the uk. Never create links that simply state "Click Here", what a waste of anchor/link text!
- THE URL/LINK ITSELF: This is the part that tells the browser where to go and again should be descriptive. For instance the company owning this site is FCOnline Ltd but from a search engine point of view what will tell it more:
http://www.fconline.co.uk or http://www.businessdirectorylistings.co.uk
In the code below I have highlighted the url/link in red
<a href="http://www.businessdirectorylistings.co.uk" title="Business Directory Listings UK">Business Directory Listings UK</a>
- THE TITLE TAG: This is used by search engines a lot because quite often you can't have a very descriptive link or link text due to space and other restrictions. Having a good descriptive title tag really helps in this circumstance.
In the code below I have highlighted the title tag
<a href="http://www.businessdirectorylistings.co.uk" title="Business Directory Listings UK">Business Directory Listings UK</a>
